SVG — The Winner for Logos

Pros:

  • Infinitely scalable without quality loss
  • Tiny file size (often under 10 KB)
  • Colorable and animatable via CSS
  • Searchable text

Cons:

  • Not suitable for photographs
  • Complex graphics can produce large files

Recommendation: SVG is the primary logo format. Always export it.

PNG — The Versatile All-Rounder

Pros:

  • Transparent background
  • Lossless compression
  • Universal compatibility

Cons:

  • Gets blurry when scaled
  • Larger files than JPG/WebP

Recommendation: PNG as secondary format — for social media, presentations, everywhere SVG isn't possible.

JPG — Only for Photos

Pros:

  • Excellent for photography
  • Small file size at good quality

Cons:

  • No transparency
  • Lossy compression (artifacts on text)
  • Bad choice for logos with sharp edges

Recommendation: Never use JPG as your primary logo format.

Which Format When?

  • Website (logo in header) → SVG
  • Social media profile picture → PNG (1080×1080 px)
  • Email signature → PNG (max. 300 px wide)
  • Print (business cards) → SVG or PDF (from SVG)
  • App icon → PNG in various sizes (512×512, 192×192, 48×48)
  • Favicon → SVG (modern) or ICO (legacy)

The answer is almost always: Create your logo as SVG and export PNG variants as needed. That's exactly what our logo editor enables — with one click.
